Cultural selection is the spread of different memes across generations based on how they vary in abilty to serve as effective communication signals. It it not driven by the variation of an individual's relative fitness within a popultion.

Cultural selection examples[]
An example of cutlural selection is the adaptation of bird songs to different conditions in the environment. Songs evolve fairly independent of mechanistic contraints, and help explain differences in song among populations that are closely related.
