Evolutionary Mismatch From the Paleo Diet to Climate Change

Evolutionary mismatch happens when organisms through natural selection possess traits that at one time were ideal for survival within a particular environment but now now exist in an environment quite different from the original. These organisms how hold traits that are “mismatched” with its environment.

Examples of Evolutionary Mismatch[]

We see many examples of evolutionary mismatch as a result of humans being able to quickly alter environments. In the attached video, we see how sea turtles hatchlings typically follow moonlight towards the sea, however due to shoreline development, turtles are follow these misleading artificial lights away from the sea . Humans with a lactose-intolerance are an example of evolutionary mismatch as a result of our diet changing drastically from our ancestors.
