Constructing a Cladogram-0

Creating a Cladogram

While going through my evolutionary sketch, I found myself using a lot of very specific vocabulary including nominate species, cladistic analysis and monophyletic.  To be sure that I understand each of these terms, I have explored them a bit further...

Defining the word[]

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, :  of or relating to a single stock; specifically :  developed from a single common ancestral form — mono·phy·ly \ˈmä-nə-ˌfī-lē\ noun(retrieved from http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/monophyletic on 10/22/2013)

Monophyletic groups are also referred to as clades, sharing the same root as cladistics.  Cladistic analysis is often used to determine phylogenetic relationships amongst closely related species.  A single clade or monophyletic group shares a single common ancestor.
